NS Youth Day Ticket

Are you between 12 and 18 years old? Then NS has the travel product for you! With the NS Off-Peak Day Ticket for young people, you can travel unlimited on NS trains for a whole day for only €7.95. Ideal for a festival, day trip, sports match, event or family visit.

With the NS off-peak day ticket for young people you travel during off-peak hours and weekends. The off-peak hours run from Monday to Friday 06:30, between 09:00 – 16:00, and 18:30 – 04:00. On Saturday and Sunday the NS Youth day tickets can be used all day. Also keep in mind that you can only use the Youth day tickets in NS trains. The travel product is not valid in trains from other carriers.

Ordering NS Off-Peak Day Tickets for Young People

The travel product can be ordered online or via the app at a fixed price of 7.95 euros. Also available for young people who do not yet have an OV-chipkaart (public transport smart card). If young people use the card and a conductor has doubts about their age, they may ask for proof of identity.

    Off-Peak Discount for Young People

    Initially, NS speculated about a subscription for young people, with which they could travel cheaply by train more often. Due to Corona, NS has changed its plans because travel behavior would have changed. A subscription form does not fit the current needs, which is why they have now come up with an NS day ticket for young people.

    Research into cheap train tickets for young people

    In February 2020, NS conducted research into the needs of young people. This showed that they found the train too expensive for a day out and preferred the car over the sustainable train. Furthermore, 71 percent of young people indicated that they would use the train more often with a youth discount card. 57 percent of parents said they would plan a day out with the whole family more often.

    To also encourage sustainable travel among young people, NS has launched cheap train tickets for young people. Previously, it was only possible to order the NS Jongerentoer, formerly tienertoer, during holiday periods. Now this is possible all year round from 1 September 2020.
